December. A month all about festive traditions. A month in which we look back on what has happened, the good and bad things we experienced, what has happened to us and what we have accomplished.
These festivities can bring about a lot of tension. Pain, sadness and loneliness are amplified. And thanks to Covid-19 it has been a hard year for many of us – because you lost a loved one, because your business is suffering, because you were fired or haven’t seen your family in months.
By now, everyone is fed up with people who give unsolicited well-intentioned advice. My advice: do not read beyond this point if you do not want any advice.
Here is my advice…
Whenever you feel overwhelmed, find a quiet place. Go outside, into the garden or balcony, or lock yourself into the bathroom.
First, take a couple of deep breaths into your belly. While breathing in, count to 4. Breathe out and count to 6, 7 or 8.
Then focus on your senses and name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste.
It sounds like a silly little exercise, but you will notice that your mind and body will become calmer. And you can repeat this exercise as many times as you want.
Have you got any questions? Would you like to know if I can help you in another way? Do send me a message. It will be my pleasure to be of service to you.
